HOT foot-well

I have a '92 C2 cab. and in the middle of the foot-well, to the right and up of the pedal cluster, there is something that is emanating A LOT of heat when the car is warmed up. It blows out to the passenger side as well. This would be perfect in cold weather, but it really shouldn't be doing that. It's like I've got the heat on full blast and the metal object (after about an hour of normal street or highway driving) is VERY hot to the touch. I turn on the A/C on and route it to the foot-well to cool me and that object down. I'm scared it might catch on fire. Anyone with experience on this? Thanks!

correct foot-well problem

ok.. looked further into this and it's actually on the passenger side right side of foot-well......it's the HVAC ducting just above the plug thing where you check for codes....it gets VERY HOT and radiates heat.....i think there is some ducting that goes under the door jamb to the back of the car, because it so warm as well

It sounds like you have a faulty actuator or ccu.

Here's a tech article that might help you to debug.

it's more on the right top side of the pass. side foot-well...like some ducting that comes from the front through the "firewall" and passes just below the plug for monitoring the engine (codes) and down through the bottom of the door jamb to the back of the car....i'll try the link....let me know if you can think of anything else....THANK YOU!

There is a hose in the right rear of the right footwell that brings hot air into the cabin from the heat exchangers. There's a carpeted piece with one (AFAIK) screw that covers the hose - make sure it is intact and connected at both ends. That's the easiest problem in a long list...

AFAIK screw? WTF? LOL! long list, no kidding! that sounds plausible...it's HOT right there at the elbow in the foot-well and warm FROM the heat ex. towards the front....when the key is pos. 1 or 2 i can hear a faint fan noise coming from the elbow piece....possibly on the other side of the "firewall?" seems it won't stop running.......this could be right, because the harder i drive it the faster it warms up....i f ease into a drive and not jump on it, it seems to take longer to get really hot

Is the engine blower fan running all the time perhaps?

i tried some things yesterday and it seems that the #2 servo has failed...THANKS for the link!! i guess what i'll do is pop off the arm that the servo turns and move it manually...i'm thinking this action will tell the heater to stop working on the pass. side and route the cool a/c there.....the fan did stop when i turned the switch to "off"......just seems sometimes it doesn't do that....on either of my 92 cabs.....like it has to cool down or has a mind of it's own.....any idea on where to get the servo?

Don, I've the same issue, but here is my twist on the problem: The flap for mixing heat from the footwell is closed, but I still have heat moving up into the footwell area. Do you know of any reason why this would happen? I thought if the flap was closed then the pressure keep heat from coming into the carbin area?
TIA

This has happen to me also. The paper heater hose at your feet can wear or rip. This can then cause the pressurized air to leak out allowing the dump gate in the rear wheel well to divert the heated air to the inside cabin air without the controls requesting heat. I believe if you repair or replace the hose it will eliminate your problem. I taped my hose but need to replace it myself. Not sure where to pickup a set of these hoses.

But good luck.

Tall 02......where is this hose you speak of? the hose in the footwell on the passenger side is fine...is there another hose in the back, in front of the rear pass. wheel well?

There is a hose from your header heat exchanger up to your differential pressure flapper valve near your rear shock. It either dumps into the wheel well or is diverted into the frame chanel and is diverted up front to the footwell where a second hose connects from the side floor frame up into the firewall controls. The system is pressurized by the fan on the rear engine. When the heating system calls for heat the servos on the firewall dash rotate opening the valve to allow the air to flow forward into the cabin chamber and bring warm air. It will go through a mixing chamber and mix warm and cold air depending on how much warm air is called for before it is sent into the cabin. Thus if the hose at your feet is ripped then the pressurized air leaks out and the system thinks you are calling for hot air and it diverts hot air forward which escapes out through the ripped hole.

This is just one alternate option to hot feet when the heat is not turned on.

Good luck
