993 Windshield Rust
I have a 993TT (1995) and recently I noticed the beginning of some bubbling underneath the right hand bottom corner of the front windshield. I heard this is a common problem for 993s especially in extremely humid places (I live in Hong Kong).
What is the solution to this problem? Is it a major fix? Thanks. |

Since this is a TSB...
...will the dealership repair this pro bono?
|
Not likely but it never hurts to ask

Bill: Why only on 95 models?
Thanks, George |
Hi there, yes I have heard that this is a common problem with nearly 911's too, I have the problem with mine too (964 Turbo) I have been told that there are 2 solutions, 1) have the rust scraped out and resprayed (windshield needs to be removed so new rubber advisable 14 pounds sterling I believe, so well worth it)! 2) Porsche offer a replacement part for the section underneath the windshield which can replace the original (I have been told that the new part is Galvanised which would stop the problem happening again) obvioulsy the windscreen would have to be removed and the section sprayed plus the advisable new rubber.
Incidently you may also consider replacing the 2 rubbers either side of the part to be replaced while you are at it. I have no costing for the replacement part, however someone else here or Porsche may be able to help with that. Good Luck Chris P.s. You will probably hear a wind noise from your windscreen (not neccesarily from the same area, therefore I would advise against just having filler and paint on the visible area as you may also find that once the windscreen is removed, further areas neeing attention, just as well have the whole job done rather than repititipon. |
