Squeak in dash

I have a 95 993 Cab, and have started to hear a squeak behind the dash. I was wondering if someone out there could give me some pointers on removing the lower dash so that I can investigate and correct the squeaking problem. I do most of my own work on the car so I'm pretty comfortable to tearing it down.

Thanks for any help.

Pull out the radio and HVAC control unit to see the lower mounting bolts. Side panels on the ends hide the other bolts IIRC.

It's probably worth some time looking around before you start removing the lower dash though. There's a bolt between the dash and console that might be worth looking at.

Thanks for the info Don,

I've already been poking around under there and was unable to find anything within plain sight that was obviously loose. I removed several of the instrument gauges, nothing there... removed the ash tray and saw 2 bolts that look like they are for the lower dash (or knee protector as they call it in the manual) but wasn't exactly sure what other bolts were there to hold it in place. I plan to do more probing before I get serious about removing the lower dash but wanted to know how big an effort it was going to be to remove it so I can dig deeper.

Thanks a bunch!

Kevin

Maybe the Windshield squeaking syndrome? it is fairly common.,Candy.

I had a cricket in my dash. Turned out to be a loose glove box hinge.

Is the squeak perhaps located in the passenger airbag doors? There is a TSB for that.

Thanks to all the responders!! I'll be looking into it today... I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks again. Kevin

my squeak in the dash is on the passenger side. it's one of the blower fans for the interior with failing bearings. you can easily check this by cycling your 'defrost' switch if you have one like on a 964.

Thanks to all!! Fixed it!! A bundle of stereo cables were loose and just needed to be tightened and secured.... cricket is GONE!!
