993 bugs ???

I am aboiut to fly to LA to look at a 993 and knowing nothing of these cars I need some guidance. I was told by a tech at the local dealer that the 97s are best, but that is all.
Thanks. I am in a hurry cause seller will only hold for two days before it goes to next guy in line.

Does it have 118K miles You may just want to make a deal and not bother flying out. He's playing the "best offer" game. Ask me how I know........
BTW you will be way to late by the time you fly out.

nope

it has 98k miles and owner is former LAPD. Really straight up guy. There are a lot of those cars in LA and if something goes sideways I will pick something up.

Oh, very good. I still wouldn't bother with the flight. Make the offer subject to inspections (PPI) and a final visual by you. The best way to do it is to have another member in the area look at it for you and then make the offer subject to what their impressions were. You can't look at every car, and if you know the model well enough, you can buy with very little time and expense.
I am looking at a 95 in LA and have made "the deal" with the owner assuming he gets no better by Monday, thought it was the same guy.

GL with it!

best offer!!??

that is bogus. That is what an AUCTION is.
Yes I am lining up a PPI and if it passes I will go to pick it up. PPIs I have had in the past have included everything ---not just mechanical. Trouble codes, leakdown, driveablity test, body condition.

oh absolutely. The one I am looking at was an ebay car that got no bids but mine. He also had it advert'd locally and says he has other offers, but he took my pretty low one, subject to no one else stepping up to the plate. I don't care either way, if he calls me and says its mine.....fine, if not .....fine. I already have one, this was just going to be a track car so I don't wad up a 4S

BTW, what's your guy want for his? I'm looking for a cheap car. If your PPI turns up more than you want to deal with, let me know, I may be interested.

I (thats only my opinion!) wouldnt buy this car for 20$. Why? Look at the car carefully.

You can't judge a car by pictures on the internet - the detail just isn't there. My car looks wonderful on my website or posts here, but it's a real 15' car. Fine for a track beast, but not for daily driver IMHO.

But for 20K it would make an outstanding track platform...

@993inNC

well, it could be nothing, but both front fenders and the upper door hinges are slightly damaged (more than scratches) and at the windshield frame over this are paint fissures - and in the fenders you could see leavings from bondo grind and srews missing... but you have to build your own opinion - it could be nothing, but I would not buy this car for 20$ - however I am no body guy or mechanic and I was looking for a honest car

Thanks for the heads up Marc. I heard from the owner, he had a buyer that did a PPI and came up with other issues too (buyer backed out).....so I offered him even less $$. Don't believe he's to happy about that since I haven't heard back. More power to him! You got to love these forums though. Always someone around with their finger on the pulse and willing to help out.

Thanks again, probably saved me from buying a POS!

I placed a call to him on Tuesday, have not heard back. Will try again first of the week. He never responded to my email either so not sure he ever got it. In my message I referenced that email. If he never got it, he has no clue what I am talking about.

If you go to putfile.com/993innc there are some clips and pics. Again this went from a hobby and is now turning into a business we never intended on so things aren't set up in a "professional" manner. I'll get to it sooner or later

Because I'm not yet in PEL's system, I don't want to disclose prices publicly, Wayne wasn't real pleased with me publicly talking about us as it is, so trying not to upset the Gods

PM me if you'd like some info

I don't recall ever seeing him on Renn and he never listed it there. I offered him in the teens just from what I saw on Fleabay. It has the wrong wheels and wide oval tips. Knew right there between that and his writeup that something wouldn't be right about the car. When he said he told his wrench to make it perfect......that about said it all for me. And still it had a list of issues after being made "perfect"?

Bought it!

I drove the Arctic Silver car from Camarillo. It has a couple of minor issues but overall I could not be happier and want to thank you guys for the suggestions.
Took into three digits a few times and it was just as smooth as if it was going 60.
One needs Cruise control with this car. Because the exhaust is stock it is hard to tell how fast you are going when there is no traffic around you.
