radio

I want to replace my CR1 with a CDR210. Was told that I needed an amp. and to get the volume (my 95 is a conv.)Stereo shop said an Alpine would hook right in line and that installation would be no problem. My concern is that I was reading about problems that occured with dashboard warning lights that came on after someone installed a new system. Are there any precautions to consider?
thanks,
P.

Never heard of such a thing. If you don't have the hi fi option then yes, they can slap an alpine in there no problem. I've never had my stereo out and haven't seen how the antenna amplifier is wired, but make sure that they hook this back up correctly or your reception won't be so hot.

Good luck - post some cool pics when you put it in.

If your 993 is anything like the 964, thre is plenty of room to rewire things without disturbing the airbag plugs (light probably come on when someone bumps a plug loose). Of course, disconnect the battery when poking around back there, also cars with passenger side weight sensors for airbag/baby seat can get a disconnection there.

I've got an older 50Wx2 Alpine under the pass seat, sounds great, installaton was easy. But I'm shooting for the most power per cubic inch on my next upgrade = Alpine PDX 4.100.

I just replaced an Alpine 78xx head unit with an Alpine iDA-X001 in my 993. There is no reason you should get a warning light from a radio replacement unless they knocked something loose.

In a '95 993 cabriolet the "ambient" noise is about 80-82 db (a number of us have tested it using a Radio Shack sound meter). My Alpine units put out about 45 W per channel and require the volume to be at the middle of the range to acrtually hear the music over the road noise and engine. If the head unit is lower power, you will certainly require an amp.
