On Board Computer OBC

Like many before me, my OBC readout is dim. However, I shined a flashlight (mini maglight) into the readout and I could see all the characters plainly. I think there is a $1.15 bulb in the back of the tach that I need. Is there a sylvania part number for this bulb? Anyway my next suprise came when I could not see "bar". I now believe that my tach was swapped out, since the owner's manual clearly says the boost should be seen in the OBC.
Anyone out there with a 1991 turbo tach that they want to swap for a non-turbo tach?

It's easy enough to pull the tach out and verify you have the right part number (use the new Pelican parts diagram). If you have the wrong tach, you can order new, or look into DC Auto or other salvage yards.

Thanks Don. I 'll have to pull the steering wheel. I seem to remember on my 911S, that I could drop the whole steering post and now there is the knee guard and more in my way.

You do not need to drop the steering column to get the tach out on a 964. Yes, it is a tight fit, but it does come out.

I tried to get the tach up and over the trim pieces covering the various stalks on the steering column, but even after removing all the screws I could not get them free from under the dash lip and past the steering wheel hub. I did not want to crack them and take a chance on a parts guy in Germany having to cut his siesta short so he could send out another part to the Yanks.
I'll just pull the steering wheel and do it the safe way, I'll sleep better.

Did you try turning the steering wheel? I found it easier with the steering wheel in one specific "rotation"........ (if you've got the airbag steering wheel, the "hub" isn't round.....)

I did get the tach out, it was a tight fit. The part number is 993 641 332 00. There is also a smaller sticker showing a dat of 06/97 which confirms that this tach did not come with my 1991 Turbo. And, the bulb behind the OBC was fried. It looked OK, but the meter said otherwise.

Glad you got it out OK. After a few mods, I was able to remove my tach much easier than before. :)
