questions on 993

I am currently looking at a 97' 993 C4S that spent some days at S-Cargo and in the process came away with a 3.8L, with S-Cargo remapped ECU, and custom set of headers, NO cats, etc. Needless to say the car is NOT street legal in a sense of emissions...

I am trying to get more detail on what has been done to the engine internally, etc., but without this knowledge what do you think might need to be done to get it on the street?

Am I wrong in thinking a factory exhaust (if it will fit) with cats, mufflers etc., and a nice warmed up engine prior to the test shouldn't pass?

FYI, I have been told this was Dan Jones 993....

It would seem that cats should be all that's necessary for emissions, assuming there are no other issues with tuning, etc.

Good luck

I know that cats are a must simply for the visual test, and then of course for the sniffer...but I am wondering if anyone else on here that has done a 3.8L build can chime in at all.

why not ask S-Car Go?

why not ask the builder for details on the motor build?

I'm digging into a 95 C4 that has a theoretical 4L build...the only problems are, the build was done 11 years/30K miles ago, the seller has NO motor build details. First it was a Patrick Motorsport Kit-they didn't make a 4L kit in 99...or even now for that matter-then it was a CMW kit. Well, it's not a full 4L because the motor has the stock 993 crank, and not CMW's billet stroker crank.

So, the seller says it was a piston and bore build-well, you don't spend $35K on a p/c build, nor do you get 100 hp out of it as claimed.

I'm still chasing the car because it is very nice overall. The seller has proven either incompetent, or elusive...ie-falsly presenting the car. until I get down to the real truth-no PPI, no sale.

I tell this tale because, no matter how nice/priced right/optioned/modded the car is, if the motor isn't right, it's a tough sale.

S-Car Go is a very reputable facility. Contact them with the vehicle vin#, even give them the owner's name who had the build done-if you have it.

Get as much detail on the build as you can-and always keep in the back of your mind what a top end rebuild will cost if that motor wasn't put together right, or cared for correctly.

Good Luck!
