1995 993 running problem

I'm trying to help a friend out with a problem he had last night. While driving it kind of bucked and wouldnt run very good then it would clear up and run fine. It had less power to get it rolling then about 30MPH it would run fine. It's a tiptronic so he changed over to manual and he said it ran worse. And then he was stoped at a light and the car in neutral but it said it was in second gear. I'll be looking at it on Sunday so any help I will thank you in advance. Also he has had the car a few months.

1995 993 models have a recall for engine wiring harness replacment, has it been done on this car?

What is the service history like?

Were any other lights on?

I would get the car checked on a Porsche tester first and see if any codes appear.

It's got 50,000 on the clock. I wondered about the plug wires. It's been raining here so that led me to the plug wires. I'll check and see if the recall has been done. Is there somewhere on the web I can run the VIN to see if it was done or not?

A carfax report shows if the wiring recall is done.

Distributor belt broken? Might want to check that.
