Spark Plug Change Interval

PORSCHE factory maintenance schedule for my '95 993 states change plugs at 30,000 mi. Almost all forums and tech sites suggest 12,500-15,000 mi. What's the rush here? I love working on cars but I also adhere to the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I don't think I've seen a 12,500 - 15,000 suggestion. I think 30,000 should be fine.

Thanks for the input, KANG, I concur...but take a quick gander at some of the other popular sites for maintenance, PCA's Tech Guru for 993 and the so-called "bible", "PORSCHE 993, King of the Road". They all advocate 12,500-15,000 mile change interval.

People over-maintain their Porsches. From receipts I gather that the PO on my car had the plugs changed and the compression checked annually, nowhere close to 30k miles. I recently sent in my engine oil to Blackstone and they compared it to their average 3.6 porsche samples which have 2k miles on the oil!.

I will change my plugs at 30k - no question.

Thanks for the input. My suspicions are starting to be confirmed. This must be a vast conspiracy by the spark plug manufacturers to sell more plugs now that new car electronic ignitions are yielding 100K mi. on a set of plugs!

I did my plugs at 50k. Not looking forward to the 100k change. It was no fun, but still a lot easier than plug wires.

Thanks, Rick. I'm beginning to think that the engineers at Zuffenhausen are masochists...and expect that anyone who works on a Porsche would be one as well.

BTW, my plugs looked fine at 50k. I only did it to clear my conscience and because I was so curious. Do your wires at the same time. It's like walking on coals at half the temperature plus broken glass.
