964 c2 all about
I have 20k to buy a car I have be saving money for over a year, for areal nice car to parked and babie it !I have alredy porsche experience 911 1981, a carrera 1986 also 951 1988 , this car will be using sundays or special dates days, I do have bmw 318 99 as daily driver, and mercedes G320 for country, the car will be bought is states and imported to panama where a tech mechanic in porsche will do any works for $10.00 hr, so maintenance is not that expensive for me vs usa owner!, any way I was looking for carrera 1988-1989 but those car are expensive these days, same mone I can geta nice coup c2 1992-1993 , I will like to ask about if is 964 is as reliable as carreras! I alredy read abput barrels, and head gasket, also distributor and air box1and dual mass flywheels!! what other ares are pront to problems in the 964 ? a/c works in this cars? how much money will need to make this car 275hp if stock are 250.00 what will be needed(what are most common upgrades? hope not too many questions for your chaps thanks alot

Hi. There are many more detailed answers to your specific questions in the archives. But here's a few off the top of my head:
Carrera's are essentially bullet-proof by comparison. 964's add a fair amount of complexity, so there is simply more to go wrong. There are well-maintained examples that push 200K miles, there are poorly maintained examples at 60K miles that are black-holes for money. Caveat Emptor. A/C is the best ever compared to older Porsches. So long as the CCU and dampers are working. I doubt if you can get the more desirable 92+ for $20K unless it is a poor example. 92+ don't have the cylinder head, DMF, distributor vent issues. You can get more HP through a dyno'd chip. No other easy/low-cost ways to get HP. Best source of power is to remove weight, and then there is plenty. BTW, your mechanic can be free (I do all my own work), but parts are more expensive than Carreras - price out brake discs, distributor caps, etc.
