Are there any outward signs to look for concerning the often mentioned valve guide wear on the964's? My car has 47K miles on it and it seems to run fine. All oil changes have been kept up to date. Unknowns are how it has been driven before I got it. Can I use Mobil 1 to help in offsetting any future problems? Any other engine problems to look for?

You will probbaly see decreased pressure during a compression check around 120k miles. You have a long way to go.

Signs will range from smoke on start-up and high oil consumption between oil changes or somewhere around 1 quart every 1000 miles or less.
Keep the engine oil and engine compartment a little cool especially when driving during the summer. The extreme heat will accelerate wear. Mobil 1 should be good. Monitor your oil consumption every oil change. If it is over 1000 miles for every quart consumed, just drive and enjoy.

Many thanks! I feel much better now. What a great machine. I have waited 50 years for my first Porsche. My wife actually surprised me on my birthday with it!!

My 91 C4 is about to turn 134K. It uses less than a quart over 3K miles. You should be in good shape.
