Is rain a problem with cone filter?

Just purchased 1990 C4. It had a K&N cone filter in place of the air box.

If I get caught in the rain, what's the downside of the filter getting wet?

Has anyone used a K&N dry-charger cover? (said to keep water out).

This is beginning of long learning process as I'm new to mark.

Thanks,

Great looking ride, congrats.

I've heard exposure to water when raining is one reason K&N cone style filters are not the most popular choice and they are usually coated with oil, which is not good for the MAS. Most say they haven't noticed any real performance gains either - in a stock motor.

A lot of folks use the stock box and drill large holes in the cover - that gives a deeper sound. Not many aftermarket filters do much for a stock motor it seems.

The cone filter also pulls more hot air from the engine bay as apposed to the stock set-up with the snorkel which is designed to suck air in from the rear wing area.

Thanks,

This is what I thought.

Now to find an airbox...

Check classifieds here and EBay. Just last week I saw one or two on EBay.
