I know the tail is wider then most, but is it wider than the wide body? Or are there only two styles wide and norrow? So, If I had a 993 non-turbo wide body, and I put a fin on the back would it look just like a turbo?

Flared, front splitter & tail. Same set-up on the Carrera S, but with a NA motor. My favorite car, but the Turbo's are a ton of money and the Carrera S's are almost as much. Lots of 993's out there with S/Turbo splitter and tails, no flares though, like this one. Sure would like to own one.

The Turbo tail is available from Porsche or aftermarket glass. You'll also need the turbo nose - the one pictured above as a CS splitter, let's see if I can find a standard vs. Turbo nose picture: Stock nose: Here's a standard turbo nose on a nb car: Here's a Euro turbo nose with the bumperettes removed and with turbo scoops: With credits to the rennlister's cars I grabbed.

Always loved that print ad they used to run in Car and Driver with an Arena Red turbo like yours motion-blurred around a long sweeper with the tagline "Kill bugs fast." Been in love with that car since I first saw it (the car, not the ad

I have the same car, but in 1:18 scale made by Anson. Steering wheel works, doors open, trunk and hood open. Very low maintenance. Very nice, but not as nice as the real thing!

Personally I like the clean line of the non whale tail cars much better. I'd get over that big wing though, for an extra 150 (?) horse.

George, those extra ponies were expensive too!
Oh well, I had a low budget when I got into my '74 and I thought this time I'm gonna go for it. The dealer had a beautiful 993 sitting there for 2/3s the cost too, but what the heck? I'm just getting older........ so gonna live it up while I can. |

I'd buy one sooner or later, if I could find one under 50k. Can't justify 70k with a young family. Seems they are all low mileage pristine cars though. I drive my cars, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy a garage queen and then take it to the track or long road trips ... my hope is that the 997 turbo will finally help push values down a bit. I am not shy about repairs either, i.e. on a higher mileage example.

Eventually I'd love to get a 993 tt as well but I just can't swing the price yet. From what I've seen 70k is the low end and they go up from there. I can't agree with you, George, on the 997 tt pushing 993 tt prices down. The aircooled cars are maintaining their prices (value) while the liquid cooled cars are depreciating like a corvette. I thought it would happen when the liquid cooled turbos came out but it never happened. Like you though my Porsche is a daily driver so I'm not interested in paying a premium for an ultra low mileage example of a 993 tt. As for maintenance I've been told that they are move expensive only because you have to remove the intercooler for 99% of your engine servicing.

I think the claims of expensive maintenance on a TT are a bit misleading. Removing the intercooler only takes 10 minutes or so, which really isn't that big a deal. Certain TT parts may be more expensive due to more limited production (rotors, pads, etc.) However, NA cars with 12 plus/wires, 2 dist caps, etc. can make up the difference.
As for big ticket items, replacing a turbo can put a dent in your wallet. But so can the SAI fix on a NA car (something the turbos don't seem to suffer as much). TTs can be expensive, but so can a NA version as well. That's why the PPI is so important no matter what you choose.

After posting I did some searching on ebay and saw that some are selling for high 50s - low 60s. They are not common in OK but I went to CA for the 964 and I'd certainly go back for a 993 tt.

Grady,
Yup, nothing under 50 that I can see. It's only a question of time though. There has to be some people that actually drive them to 100k miles. ![]() George |
