1997 993 Tip Fluid Change

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THE TRANS FLUID IN A 1977 TIP TRANSMISSION? I FIGURED OUT HOW TO DRAIN IT BUT RE- FILLING IT BACK UP HAS ME STUMPED. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Thank you very much. I found that one it is for the 75W90 diff grease. I am looking for the Dex III trans fluid input port.

It is next to the plastic sight guage (for seeing the trans fluid level when warm). You have to remove the cap (19 mm?) to expose the nipple for the Dextron fluid to be pumped into the fill chamber. I hooked up a Motive Pressure bleeder (for Brakes) and pumped Dextron type fluid in on a 1996 993/tip.

Thumbs up

Thank you very much for the great information. Did you have to make an adapter for the Motive pressure bleeder or did you just slide the plastic tube over the input nipple on the trans, or did you have to use a hose clamp to hold it on while you pumped in the Dex III?

Chris,
I tried to buy the adapter (looks like the mating female quick release adapters for a compress air line that clips onto the male inlet line). Since it was pricey (about $50) I just slipped the Tygon plastic line over the nipple fitting and plastic tied it secure before pumping the fluid in at 10 psi (which was enough to go pass the check valve). The sight glass (plastic) level was filled up to the minimum level and the car engine was ran until the trans oil temp was around 90 deg Celsius. My car was on a lift and I have the Bosch Hammer to read the internal tiptronic fluid temp as per factory instructions. If you PM me I can send you my write-up with photos.
