! and ABS warning light

My ! (idiot?) light and ABS light illuminate at start up and go off after several minutes of driving. The ! light can be turned off quicker manually, but the ABS light stays on for approximately 5 minutes.

This all started after I had removed the battery to charge and clean the battery box during 60k tune up activity late last year. I've tolerated this for a while but would like to fix it.

Did a search and one method that might be promising is to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes or overnight then run to warm, shut down and restart.

Otherwise it sounds as if my codes need checking. Suggestions?

I also get a ! and ABD light when using fog lights. This was previously diagnosed as bad (low) battery or alternator. I think its the battery as it reads a bit low on the multimeter.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Leo

Yes, disconnecting the battery overnight will let your ecu reset. Airbags have a 10 year life before they need to be checked - so you might need the Hammer (PST2) to check the sensors? Just a guess.

My understanding is that disconnecting the battery overnight will not reset an airbag light. You'll need to reset it with a Hammer or Scantool (ask me how I know).

might add my problem was apparently caused by installing a new stereo without first disconnecting the battery..
