Is there anyone here in Utah with a 964, I can test fit?
I'm a large guy but I'm buying another Porsche now. I'm looking at a 1990, 964 with a sunroof thats in a far away place. Before I go to all the effort of going to see it, I'd like to test fit and see if i can fit in your 964 comfortably before going to see this vehicle.
I live in Ogden, but I can certainly travel to where you are for this. I'm hoping for someone in SLC. If anyone has a 964, please let me know? I'd be happy to buy the drinks if you just want to meet at a local pub. Last edited by Hawktel; 02-26-2008 at 08:54 AM.. Reason: spelling is hard! |

Make sure you test fit before traveling for a car. IMHO there is no way you'll fit in a 964 sunroof car with the stock seat. Contact your local PCA chapter and see if someone there volunteers. It may be as easy as attending one of their events as a spectator.
Expect to buy a low seat and custom brackets as others have pointed out to you in OT already. George |

Ohh I plan to!
I stopped by the local dealership, to ask about lowering options, and they were not helpful at all. I was really close on the 996, I don't think the 964's are smaller than that are they? |

I am 6'2" with normal proportions (upper to lower body) and barely fit the 993 when I put my helmet on. Stock seats, sunroof. I think the 964 has the same dimensions / seats, but I may be mistaken. Without the helmet it is comfortable, with about an inch between my hair and the sunroof.
If you are 4 inches taller than I and half that is in the upper body, you will be 2 inches closer to the roof. That's only if you don't slide back to where the roof comes down further. You can solve this, just will need to look for a very low seat and bolt it to the floor. You'll want an independent Porsche shop do this mod for you, a place that modifies cars for track driving. I do not think that you can not fit the 964, it will just take some work. I would also recommend you loose the door panels with the pockets and go to RS style panels - that will free up a lot of room sideways. George |

George,
Thank you for taking a few to answer my questions. With your 964, does it have any bracketing on it that keeps it off the floor? The 996, had it directly on the floor, to where they chair rails looked like the bottom part was molded into the floor plan. thank you, Last edited by Hawktel; 02-27-2008 at 12:17 PM.. |

Air Powered Racing is in Ogden. They usually have a 964 or two around the place. I'd call up first and ask nicely before just dropping in, but they are good guys and probably wouldn't mind a test fit. This would be doubly true if you are going to buy speed parts from them later on.

I have a '90 Carrera 2 track car...but it has racing seats. Yes, Les Long at Airpower has a 90 C4 (his personal car...give him a call.

I have a 993, not a 964, but they should be identical. There is plenty of room between the bottom of the power seat cushion and the floor. I have seen very tall guys drive the sunroof 911 (pre 996). Key is a thin sport seat custom installed. The roof is all the same from 65 to 98.
