964 3.3 Turbo S?

Hi all,
The December issue of GT Porsche features the 964 3.3 Turbo S.
I was only aware of the 964 3.6 Turbo S, but not the 3.3 T S. Is this 3.3 T S model available in the US? Or was it only available in Europe? I was also under the impression that the 3.3 Turbo (non S) has the Torsion bar suspension, am I correct?
Please enlighten me....

Cheers
Carson

The US received the Turbo S2. I think it was available in 1992. Only 20 or so built - if I remember correctly. Based on the 3.3 engine it made along the lines of 380 HP.

Just to note, the US S2 was by Andial and no where near the car the euro 3.3s is.

I don't think the S2 has 380 hp either. That is about the figure for the 3.3s.

Hmm, just checked an old Car And Driver (Feb 1993) in which they tested the 911 Turbo S2. They indicate the S2 was from Porsche (specifically indicating that it isn't from Andial - but I am guessing they may have been incorrect). The car is described as being produced to homologate the 911 Turbo race car run in the in the IMSA Supercar Series. The race series required 20 be produced.

Porsche claimed the car produced 322 HP (far from the 380 I had written previously). But C and D's testing resulted in performance that was so great they believed that Porsche was sandbagging -they estimated the true horsepower at 370 HP.

Adrian Streather's Porsche 964 book tells the story that the cars were shipped to Andial for the engine kit and larger turbo charger - after the Andial work was done the car was delivered to the dealer. He goes on to say that the cars were not dyno tested and estimates the power at 371 (but doesn't say where he gets that number from); reiterating that the documentation with the car indicated 322 HP.

The Euro S does look like a more interesting car - much more modified than the S2 - having seemed to combine the lightweight 964 RS with the turbo.

Sorry for the previous mistake.

No worries. Sounds like that is about right. I'll take one of each. SmileWavy

I was being lazy when I mentioned Andial. They indeed did the prepwork.

The 3.3s is an awesome machine. There are a couple over at Rennlist. Lightweight everything, speedlines, rear ducts, recaros. It is the best 964 there is IMHO. I think the 964 rsr is a close second.

This car belongs to Carlos993 over on Rennlist.
Approximately 2800 lb., 381 HP. No power anything, no sunroof, no headlight washers, no airbags, no sound deadening, no emergency seats. Lightweight glass. A/C was an option.
Eighty-one units built (6 RHD) at a retail price of approximately $200,000.
Eventually my Turbo will morph into an "S" replica.

Yep, a buddy had one, crashed it hard at a DE (NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION, lifted in a turn going in way too hot) The car was rebodied theft recovery S2 shell out of CA. About $60 to repair if I remember correctly.
