993 shifter knob/boot removal..

Can anyone tell me if this process (removal and replacement) of the 993 shifter knob/boot assembly can be/should be done WITHOUT removing the console. I read a DIY from P-CAR and it shows that the boot releases from the top side of the console by pressing down on it to release some clips on the left side, etc. I know that the actual shifter ball extension has a set screw on the side of it where it slides into the actual shifter handle. All of that makes sense, but I want to ensure that the new replacement shifter ball/boot assembly can then be clipped back up into the top of the opening in the console. Probably overthinking this one - but thought someone who has been there, done that could help make sense of it for me. Thanks! Steve

Simply press down on the left hand side of the boot. There are two metal clips under the plastic console.

to reinstall: after stuffing the boot into the... stuff the right hand side upward into the channel, and then pull the leather on the right hand side up until the two clips catch it.

Thanks guys - I did this earlier today based on the P-CAR DIY article and it worked fine as that article (and you guys) described. It's good to have the proper shifter ball back in my Carrera S...I've owned this same car several times and the last owner changed my original aluminum/leather shifter ball to an updated 996 version....it just didn't feel like my old car but now all is well. Thanks!
