993 Sunroofs

Hi, new to this forum and looking for some info on 993s. Was wondering if all 993s delivered to North America came with sunroofs. I am 6'4" and don't quite fit into a sunroof car. Is there such a thing as a sunroof delete. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I have a 993 and was looking briefly for a sunroof-delete car as I am also 6'4". The long and short of it (ha ha) is that yes there are such beasts but they are extremely rare and those that are out there are coveted and treasured.

I finally bought one with the sunroof and deal with the headroom issues, which as it turns out isn't much of an issue at all for me. There are some things you can do with the seats and rails to buy yourself extra headroom if need be.

Good luck.

As mentioned, changing the seats and rails can buy you several inches. Sitting lower is a better position anyway; IMO the electric seats are too high.

If you are not set on 993, another option to explore is an RSA; many of which came without sunroofs.

Have decided on a 993 so an RSA is not an option. Seems like seats and rails may be the way to go since I don't need power seats. Can you be a little more specific on which rails and seats?

Wow, there are so many options, but lots of folks like the folding Recaros. Search this forum and you will find many opinions, but sitting in them in a store or friend's car is best.

You probably don't want what I have: race seats bolted to the floor with no sliders, but it does yield lots of headroom.

It is also feasible to remove a sunroof altogether. I have a fiberglass panel installed, but I have seen welded metal panels that looked just like a no-sunroof car. Then you will probably want a new headliner.

It really depends on how much time/money/effort you want to put into it. Some folks simply lean the seat way back...

If I can get a seat that puts me a little lower I think I will leave the sunroof alone. If an OEM seat won't put me lower then an aftermarket seat will be my only option. I'll do a search like you suggested. Been a while since my last Porsche........17 years.

Cutting the roof off and putting on a standard metal skin (no sunroof) is not as awful as it sounds. It's not free, but definitely feasible if you are thinking of paint.

True enough although I don't think I'll go down that road. When I lived in Germany I spent quite a bit of time at Freisinger's watching them build and restore cars. Amazing what they had stockpiled there.

Did some searching but couldn't find much for seat options. I only need to come down about an inch and would like a seat that doesn't look too out of place in the car. Any suggestions?

Agreed, but the 2" would have to be removed from my torso, neck or head!!!!

I won't be modifying the roof of any car I buy. I have found a seat I like and a place where I can check it out in the flesh.......A Recaro Style XL. It is made for taller drivers but I'm not sure how it will compare to an OEM seat once it is mounted in the car.

Might be a long shot but...

Do you have comfort or standard seats? I'm also 6'4" and have found that the comfort seats (loose looking leather) actually provide a little more room than the standard seats. Seems as though the comfort seats have a little more give in the seat bottom. I've sat in both styles in several different cars with the same results.

Still not ideal when wearing a helmet but comfortable liveable on the street.

Kevin, I have neither. Just starting to look for a car but noticed that headroom is an issue for me in any of the ones that I have sat in. They were all sunroof cars but none of them had the comfort seats. I sat in a Recaro Style yesterday that I liked alot but was told that only the full electric model would fit a 993 because the manual models control knobs got in the way. I was wondering if this seat sat any lower in the car than the OEM seats.
