P1140, P0506 '96 993 Carerra

The P1140 was present when I got the car almost 2 years ago, and the selling dealer did a lot of head scratching over it (??!!)

The P0506 showed up sometime later. Besides the codes and whatever may be causing them, the only malfunctions present are that the cruise control doesn't work and the idle is a little slow returning to normal after blipping the throttle. One or both codes could be related to that last one.

While I will probably have SOME dealer or other local mechanic (P-car) take a look soon at these codes, does anyone want to take a stab at what to look at first?

Where I live, I don't need to worry yet about passing emission tests, and while neither is the SAI, clearing codes resets the readiness settings I know.
