I just spoke to Steve W. at Rennsport Systems, and he feels that the lower strut bolt must be changed to 14mm for safety reasons, so I will get that taken care of before my next track event.

We also discussed the rubber isolation in the 993 inner tie-rod and I came to the conclusion that Evo tie-rods are the answer, so I ordered a set of those from Steve since he had them in stock. After all the money, time, and effort I have spent so far it seemed a shame not to go ahead finish up the front end properly. I will post photos when I get them.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice so far.

$5k in parts alone. What's the saying about racing Porsches: as addictive as crack and twice as expensive?

GT2/Evo tie rods:

Kris, why so much?
I thought it was $5k if the 993 struts were used.
The Evo uprights list for $700 each, correct?
Other than tie rods and wheel bearings what am I missing?

brake rotors/hats
front control arm monoballs
993 ball joints (we missed this one originally, too)
adjustable drop link (optional)

My apologies for the misinformation: the red drop link is from Tarett Engineering:

Hey guys.

Quick question.

For my widebody, the front suspension is mostly identical to a narrow body 964 except for the upright. I am assuming this pushes the wheel out a little bit more for the wide body.

Do you have any idea how the EVO uprights compare as far as where the wheel will sit in the fender. Is it more like the 964 or the 965?

Thanks.

The difference in front track on a 964 vs 964t comes from mounting the suspension in the outer holes rather that the inner. You can swap from one config to the other in an hour or so.

as to uprights
all 964 are steel, all 993 are aluminum
964 has axial mount brake ears all the others have radial mount bosses
964 & 964t use a slightly different rotor o/s from 993
the 993RS uright raises the outer end of the steering arm so that it is more horizontal at static ride height on a lowered car. You can lower the car further w/ 993RS uprights than w/ any of the others

here are 964 & 993RS(akaEvo) uprights

here is a pair of 964t uprights

I think I finally have the front end done: replaced lower strut bolt with 14mm and swapped inner tie rods for Evo part.

Did you try to install on the 964 ball joints?

I am guessing they are a must replace item?

Thanks.

It was required on my car, but I have read other posts that don't mention it. I have a very early C2 (built 12/89), and I am continually finding differences with the later cars.
