First 964 project
 

Just bought my first Porsche- a 1990 Carrera 4, dark blue with a linen leather interior. Came with a Momo installed, and included the original wheel with all the stitching cut out. I just finished re-stitching it in white to try to match the interior colors. I used a waxed thread that's designed for use with a sewing awl and it went pretty well.

Thats a really nice job and should look nice with the linen interier. Why do you not want the momo?

Air bags are nice to have in a daily driver. Goes well with the ABS. :)

I haven't decided if I'll keep the Momo in or not. Aside from the airbag issue, it is smaller than stock so my view of the tach and speedo is reduced. Also, access to the horn is changed to a kind of cheezy button mounted to the side of the steering column- though I seldom use the horn... I dunno- stock seems kind of cool, but we'll see.

Other projects:
Repair/replace input shaft seal (which the dealer in Denver misdiagnosed in the PPI as a leaking output shaft seal). $$ ouch :mad:

Replaced rear trunk struts. Comical alarm issues during this.

Figure out why the front trunk light stays on all the time draining battery (switch itself works fine, bulb removed in meantime).

Install under dash antenna. As I unplugged the stock one to the windshield the plug disintegrated in my hand- maybe that's why there was no reception.

Re-dye replacement dash. Anyone have some spare marine (?? dark) blue vinyl dye?

Clean and re-dye seats and carpet.

Install keyless entry.

Replace questionable ABS ECU.

Install missing front bumper bumperettes.

Fill and color multiple exterior scratches.

Suspension...

Ah, to have projects.:)

Now that’s patience and dedication! Right, steering wheel done, what’s next.. Your work reminds me of my days as a sailor, how many times I had to repair the storm jib or main sail after a strong blow, anyway. Thanks for the memories.. Nothing like the ocean except maybe, driving a 911/964 solo late at night through the north east of Italy.. Life is good then..

Thanks all for the kind words. Mark964- I actually have done quite a bit of that kind of stitching in the past. I've built 2 skin-on-frame kayaks (baidarkas) and they require a couple of seams ~8 feet long and carefully centered to pull the "skin" (13 oz polyesther) taught prior to waterproofing. Never had any idea the skills would transfer over to Porsche ownership.:)
