Which way to go?
 

Hello Pellicanites,

Been reading alot about PSS10 vs JIC vs HD.

I recently bought a 97C4s which has H&R springs. I'm looking into upgrading the suspension as the car has some miles already at +90k .

What I want is to attain or mimic the suspension charateristics of my 84 Carrera. You know, the raw feel??

Would it be the PSS10, JIC or Bilstein HD?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Why would you want to do that? The 993 supension is going to be so much more supple no matter what. My 993 has a far more track oriented suspension than my C3 and yet is better on the street(except for the low ride hright)

For street use Bilstein HD w/ M030 or M033 springs

For a track biased car JIC

PSS10 will be somewhere in the middle

Agree with Bill. The Bilstein set-up allows you to soften a ton for the street and stiffen for the track.

I had an 87 before my 993. I hear you in terms of "raw feel". Some of that is lost in the power steering. A lot of it is lost in the heavy airbag steering wheel. And some of it is lost in the weight of the car. But in comparison with an a very old suspension design, the 993 has much more sophistication - which gives you compliance with accuracy.

So I think what we are saying is don't confuse an easier handling car with a better handling car. I found a big difference with a lighter steering wheel. And an enormous difference with a lighter car.

Bill's advice is spot on in terms of your choices. If you are rarely if ever going to see the track, I think the HD's and M030 (or your H&R if they are lower) is a great choice.

I think you made a very good choice. I am a new owner of a 95, 993 (7 weeks) and just sold my 87, 911. The cars are different...low/on rails/fun with the 87 and sophisticated/precision/power with the 993. Don and Bill are correct an all counts!
The PSS10s will allow you a lot of suspension choices for all driving situations and ride heights. I love the 2/1 setting at autoXs and the 7/6 for Xcountry touring and street. Take photos and keep us posted.
