'89 3.2 targa to 993 Carrera 4 coupe?

All:

I like driving my 911 so much I want to drive it year round, but my current car is not an ideal daily driver. My main goals are; go back to just 2 cars (sell the MCS & 911), more comfort/less noise=happier wife, and something that can handle rain/snowy/icy conditions. It sounds like a 993 C4 might work. I did a search, but still have questions;

1. Is the 993 C4 a suitable daily driver? 3 mile commute to work, plus road trips for wife, dog and I (no kids).

2. What size rims are available? I will need some studded tires with a spare set of rims for the winter.

3. How many air bags does the 993 have?

4. Does the C4 have heated seats?

5. How much quieter/smoother will a 993 be on the highway vs. my current car?

6. Was the C4 available with the tiptronic? I don't want one, just checking.

7. Am I correct in thinking $35k will get me a sub-70k miler in good shape?

8. I have read about the 'engine light' issues and the years affected. Was there any significant change in the awd system during the 993s model years?

9. Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Yes, but a 3 mile trip is not great for the engine. It won't get to operating temp.

2. What size rims are available? I will need some studded tires with a spare set of rims for the winter.

Many. from 16 to 18.

3. How many air bags does the 993 have?

Two - driver and pax. Not 2nd generation though.

4. Does the C4 have heated seats?

Some do

5. How much quieter/smoother will a 993 be on the highway vs. my current car?

Than the Targa, probably much more.

6. Was the C4 available with the tiptronic? I don't want one, just checking.

Yes

7. Am I correct in thinking $35k will get me a sub-70k miler in good shape?

Maybe. But you'll want $5K in reserve to update the suspension (unless the PO did and for contingencies).

8. I have read about the 'engine light' issues and the years affected. Was there any significant change in the awd system during the 993s model years?

None that I'm aware

9. Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Lots of info here. I also have an MCS and think it is an ideal daily driver.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.
