964 Vibration Fix
How many of you find some vibration under power? A feeling of looseness with power on and then power off and a harsh feeling while cruising?
I have had all sorts of suggestions about what might be causing this but the fix was simple. New Rear Engine Mounts. I estimate a 50% improvement in smoothe acceleration, even cornering doesn't have what seemed like a weight shifting at the back end. I bought a pair of RS Rubber mounts and all the washers and bolts for around US$350 the set. I had taken out one of my old mounts and it was totally without fluid with the motor hanging off it. (The cars done 85,000Km so they do not last forever). It took just 1 hour to replace both sides. The aircon side mount is a tight removal job, take off the plastic aircon re-gassing protective cap to make enough room. Use a good garage jack to support the motor then crank it up when you put the new mounts in. I heard the RS mounts would be harsher, but no, they are great. Technical difficulty five out of ten. |
I recently took another step stiffer with the Wevo mounts for my track car. So I have a used set of RS engine mounts + bolts, if any one would like them. $200 + shipping from 92064.

An alternative to the RS mounts are the Wevo semi-solid mounts. They can be ordered with different bushing hardness depending on street/track usage.
