911 driving problem

my 1990 911 was driving perfect then it cut out. When started it wouldn't idle very well, and would continue to cut out. So I changed the DME relay, and fuel filter and cleaned the rotor and dist cap. Now it seems to idle well, but when driving if I put my foot down over 40 miles an hour - it goes flat and wants to cut out plus my triptronic has stopped working - and it seems to drive in 3rd maybe 4th gear. does this happen to protect the gearbox ?? thanks

Hello,

do you have a 19pins round OBD plug on your car?
i'm not familiar with the tiptronic transmissions, as all my car are manual,
but you should plug it, to know if you don't have a tiptronic failure.
I don't think you have that kind of limiter on 964s for the tiptro.
Maybe should you first check the ATF fluid level and then make an electronic diagnostic.

I hate to say that but those great cars have too much electronic...

all the problems you have with bad start/idle/stalling/poor performance/ tiptronic
are all potentially related.

sorry,
i just checked the workshop book, and you were right, there is a "restricted driving program", in case of faulty Tiptronic. Only an OBD diagnostic will tell you more.
cheers

Talking thanks

yes, we found out it was a faulty transmission control module for the triptronic. so it must be related to the cutting out.
thanks for your help.
