Factory Wheel Locks '91 964
Got a simple question,
Are the factory wheel locks on a '91 964 sized differently in length for the front wheels verses the rear? I have the stock D90 wheels on the car. I bought a set of original Porsche locks, but come to find out they were from a 944. The locks extend out at least a quarter of an inch further than the face of the front wheel, they are recessed just fine for the rear wheels. I find it hard to believe Porsche would design the front wheel locks this way. ![]()

Yes, the factory locks are the same for the front and rear.
I changed to aftermarket locks with a black plastic cover, they are recessed, look stock, and dont protrude in the front.

Do you still have your original ones?

Hans,
If your car is a "garage queen" and has stock wheels, why don't you ask your friendly Porsche mechanic to give you four stock lug nuts and forget about the wheel locks? Mark

Hans,
My '91 is stock as well with the exception of an updated radio/changer in the luggage compartment, some updated Alpine speakers in the original size/location, and a K&N filter attached to a 930 style air snorkle. I also deleted the aux air injection system and the catalytic converter. Recently, I upgraded the DMF for a lightweight flywheel and Turbo S clutch disk, retaining the original crank sensor and pressure plate. In the process of this engine drop, I replaced about 20 missing original engine compartment bits and pieces. So I am completely with you. Unless your car has option M455, the wheel locks were likely added at a later date by a previous owner. Some dealerships just put them on and then charged the buyers another $250 on the sticker. Your front cover should have the sticker showing the options. Thanks, Mark

![]() ![]() Great information, thank you. I will look for the M455 option code. I suspect something else was there at some point because each wheel has one newer lug nut in place. My C2 is completely original, right down to the radio which admittedly leaves a bit to be desired for pure sound quality. I just leave it off and listen to the best music there is; the sound of that sweet flat six behind me. ![]()
