95 993, engine / tranny value?
I'm close to buying a front wrecked, moderate impact crashed 993.
150K miles was in good running condition until the crash. any ideas on what a complete engine / tranny / wiring harness / DME like this would sell for from a dismantler? I"m calling a couple of them too for answers. thanks Craig |

$10K? Depends on mileage and records. Did you see what Rattlesnak did with a front end impact 993?

150k is a little high for my liking and a top-end could be due. In good shape the motor with DME and harness should be between 7k-8k. The tranny is anywhere between 2k - 3k.
Dismantler all claim that their engines have less than 30k miles (right and I believe in Santa Claus) and will probably ask between 8k-10k for an engine.

cgfen,
I don't think engine and trans is worth 10k with 150k miles. consider it a core. You'd be pretty lucky if the bottom end was sound. A rebuild will be quite costly, probably another $6k to $10k. I'd try to find one with less miles. Actually, I'd never buy an engine which cannot be tested in a car. I did that once and had to rebuild it immediately. That was a $10k mistake. I'm in Encinitas, by the way. shoot me a message if you want to talk live. I'm near La Costa and PCH. Doug

I could not pm you, so am posting here. thanks for the input. i live in alga hills, (el camino and alga area) please email if you get a chance. cfenstermaker i know this cars PO, it had a top end and clutch @ 130K. I agree, it would almost definately need bottom end refresh. but part of the reason i want it is to rebuild it an learn a bit more about these Porsche aeroplane-style engines. I have extensive expereince building big block MOPARs and have a decent baseline for engine "balancing - blueprinting - machining" needs. cheers Craig |

Now in 993 land ...

The bottom end will not need any attention well past 200k if the car was maintained. If you have receipts for a top end at 130k, you will have to wait a long time before you can learn how to rebuild a flat six.
