Temporary exhaust for 3.6 in Carrera for smog
I'm planning on how to smog a 964 engine in an '84 Carrera. I don't care about hp/torque loss. I don't care about sound level. Just want to get past the referee and then put on a good exhaust system.
-I'm told the 964 HEs have an interference fit with the 915 clutch assembly. I'm assuming that modifying the crossover pipe wont work (but would like to know if anyone has any ideas). -Carrera 3.2 HEs will fit with minor modification. My questions are: 1) Can I use the 3.2 HEs, bolt up the 3.2 cat and 3.2 primary muffler without any other interference with the '84 chassis? (If there is interference with the primary muffler then I could put in a primary bypass or Triad/M&K/etc.) and 2) would it have a chance at passing smog, remembering that it only has to run well at idle and 2500 rpm. |

Now in 993 land ...

I have looked at an SC with 3.6 (964) swap. It had a full SC exhaust system mounted. I do not know what needs to be done to make it fit, but it looked "stock". This was in CA - probably had the same challenge than you have now. Had a referee sticker ...
