Modification of 964 crossover pipe when mating 3.6 to 915 tranny

I'm trying to put a 1991 3.6 liter in my '84 Carrera. The clutch release mechanism interferes with the crossover pipe. Has anyone had their local hot rod muffler shop modify the crossover pipe so that it doesn't have this interference? (I know I could use 993 or 3.2 heat exchangers but I dont want to go this way yet.)

This would be a better question on the 911 forum but...

some have used a 3.2 exhaust, but most use headers of some sort, 993 are popular as is B&B.

here's mine from many years ago configured w/ B&B, 964 engine, 915 trans

Thanks for the input. I have tried to follow all the other solutions and I think I undestand the pros and cons. But I am specifically interested to see if anyone has tried the crossover pipe mod approach. I want to keep as stock as possible for CA smog. (Pls don't suggest I try to slip something by.)
