Help with driver's power seat

Folks,

I've had the car a week and I am stuck already. I bought it with the knowledge that the driver's side power seat did not move back and forth. The limited prepurchase inspection made it sound like the drive cables.

Its not the drive cables as the are both ok. The outboard jack screw does not turn when disconnected from it drive cable. The inboard side works fines.

The seat is in full rear position so I can barely drive comfortably. With the seat in full rear I can not remove the rear seat attach bolts as they are in the seat track.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Jim

What year/model? On the 964, there is a tool in the kit to move the seat manually.

Sorry about that. It's a 97 C4S with the base leather.

Also, if I just put the bare flex cable into the jack screw and turn, the screw does not turn. It is somehow jammed.

Sorry for reviving a long dead thread. I have the same problem as Raceaero on my passenger seat. Recently it stopped working. Both cables are intact. One of the cables does not turn at all ... jammed. Any hints on how to unjam, or likely areas that I should look at?

Since the seat is in the far back position, I can't get to the back bolts to unbolt the seat to take a better look.

Figured it out. It appears that one of the threaded runners (can't think of a better name) had jammed when the seat went a little too far back. The motor and cable could not provide enough torque to unjam the runner, but removing the cable and inserting a long Robertson screw driver (Canadian invention) into the drive socket gave me the umph needed to free the seat. My passenger can happily adjust their seat now.

Well that's pretty neat. I was driving down the road, tried to power it forward and back and it just unjammed and started working. I was excited and have moved it to where I like it and haven't messed with it since.

Now that it works, I should take it apart and see what's really wrong.

Thanks for your story.

Thanks for the response Raceaero. I think one of my passengers moved the seat all the way back, and gave it a little push at the end of it's travel ... slightly jamming it. I'm glad it wasn't anything major.

That is one of the quirks with the 993. You never want to leave the seat in the full back position. If you do take the seat all the way back, just push the button to move it slightly forward and you should never have that problem again.

I'll keep that in mind CDMdriver. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Now on to discover more quirks.
