964 rear deck lid help!

I have a 1991 964 and i really love driving it. However recently I have had trouble with the rear deck lid not operating. If I help by manually pulling out the lid just a bit, I can raise it fully by using the electrical switch. However, once I put it down completely it will not raise again. Do any of you guys have a suggestion on how to fix this?

Thanks,

CW

On the underside, there are two microswitches that need to be in correct adjustment. One tells the spoiler computer that the full up position has been reached, and the other tells it that the full down position has been reached. Check that these are being activated. You can disconnect the motor and move it up and down. There is also an adjustment screw that sets the position of the spoiler in the down position. This may be out of adjustment. Otherwise, could be a bad motor?

Harry beat me to it!
When the rear decklid is open remove the plastic cover on the left side. There are two philips screws holding it on. Under there you will see the two microswitches. Then follow Harry's advice. I can take a picture if you can't figure out what is what.

If you could take a picture of it I sure would appreciate it! Either way this is a great web site.

Thanks Again,

So after a closer look I think I have discovered the problem. The segment tooth sector won't stay on the motor wheel. I think the torsion spring is not attached properly. Dose anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Christopher

The locking nut on the shaft has loosened allowing the toothed gear lateral movement - find it - loctite it - tighten it and you will be able to get it up again (so to speak)

Thanks for your help. It turned out to be a $25.00 screw, part# 964 512 381 00. $25.00!! for a screw. Oh well. The spoiler deploys perfectly and dose not fall off of the gearing. Thanks to all.

Best Regards,
Christopher

Can someone describe where the adjusting screw is or post a picture? The plastic on my spoiler is cracked which I believe is due to the spoiler retracting too far and hitting the deck lid itself. Before I try to fix the cracks I'd like to make sure they don't immediately reappear. Anybody have experience with this?

Many thanks!

They are under the plastic cover on the left side. There is a screw that adjusts the position of the microswitch by the bottom of the spoiler. That one sets the down position. I rather doubt this would cause cracking, though. More likely it is just age.
