The 993 tiptronics are very reliable and robust. You don't hear about any issues with them. I find them very unstimulating to drive. Drive one and decide if its worth the compromise to get the wife to agree to a 993. They aren't good for the track but they are good in city traffic.

It would be good to have records of fluid change at the recommended interval. Otherwise they are pretty robust for daily driving.

Pros:
Wife can drive the car too
City traffic
You feel like driving a Mercedes

Contras:
Uninspring to drive
Unsuitable on curvy mountain roads or tracks, one gear is lacking
You feel like driving a Mercedes

Mine had a failure of the speed sender unit at only 55k kms = 35k miles.

The effect was it didnīt put the gears down at low speed,
and very bad for the engine mountings and suspension when the whole lump in the back
was knocking.

Tiptronic is an awesome option for city driving, and yes, dependable as well.
