993 tt 1996 pluged a 1997 ecu(dme) but the car wont start 97 ecu was working fine
 

I bought a 1997 ecu (dme) from the US and plugged it into my 1996 993tt but the car wont start, if i plug my 1996 ecu back in, it starts fine. The 1997 ecu(dme) was re-mapped by GIAC in the US, i bought the ecu from a friend of mine and his car was running fine with the 97 ecu(dme) do i need to do something to the ecu, my car is originally from Dubai was bought into the UK a few years a go, is there any differences between the US Porsches and the Porsches from Dubai that wont allow the 97 ecu to work on my car. :confused: can any one help i only bought the ecu because i was told you cant modify the ecu out of a 1996 993 turbo http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1237327072.jpg

Does one expect an immobilizer and the the other not?

If the '96 DME was set up for immobilizer you would have to have actuated it every time you started the car, so it sounds as if the car doesn't have it oem.

as for the '97 DME what is the Porsche # on it? I have tt's but don't know if the GT2 used the same DMEs or not.

I’ve had the following mods installed on my 993tt, 996 gt2 k24 turbos, 100 cell cats, additional oil cooler fitted, different set of cams, i was aiming for 520hp so had the ecu mapped accordingly was told the 96 ecu can’t be modified, that’s the reason i bought a 97 ecu and had it mapped by GIAC. i need to get this ecu plugged in and working to get full potential of the mods i had carried out. I`ve tried I few tunning companys here in the UK but not having any luck. the Numbers on the 97 ecu are 993.618.666.10 bocsh numbers are 993.618.611.00 and 0 261 204 377. will list the numbers of the 96 ecu later

993.618.666.10 is a DME for 993 tt from '96 up w/ drive block.

It appears that that is your issue. If the car doesn't have an immobilizer the DME has to be w/o drive block.

993.618.665.10 is for '97 993tt w/o driveblock

993.618.665.02 is for '96 993tt w/o driveblock

there are several others available too for cars w/ M150 option.

993.618.663.01 is for '96 993tt w/o driveblock w/ M150
993.618.663.10 is for '96> 993tt w/o driveblock w/ M150

The numbers on my old 96 ecu are 993.618.681.82

as I said, the only GT2 info I have is for the Evo versions which used TAG3.8 for engine management.
