993 - G50 clutch cooling vent question

Hi all,

We've installed a G50/21 from a 993 into my 964 project car, and I had a question about the clutch cooling vent (no idea if this is even the correct term for this thing). The photos are below, but basically the vent pipes in from somewhere, and circulates air through the clutch area, and then vents out into the airbox.

My question is whether or not any 993 owners have done anything to modify this vent? I don't have the correct piping so we're tossing some ideas around as to what to do with the vent since it's there as opposed to just blocking it off (the 964s don't have this vent system, so blocking it off will not have any detrimental effect).

Thanks in advance for any input!

This opening vents to the airbox in a 993.

Supposedly, you can install a block-off cap in the vent hole on the case if you do not intend to use it. I say supposedly because I could not find the part number in PET for this plug.

Hope this helps.

ard - Thanks! I looked through PET as well and the catalog shows no cap, only the piping for the inlet (can't find the outlet piping that leads to the airbox).

I think we're just going to machine cover plates and seal of the vent ports for the time being, until be figure out a way to circulate clean air through the bell housing without having the benefit of suction from the airbox/engine.

I beat up my hose while removing it to do my plugs. I found some generic replacement for under $10 at a local parts store. Next time I have it all apart, I'll leave the hose off. I don't think it's necessary.
