993 engine gurus need advise??

How long do valve guides go on a 1995 993 that has had proper maintenance? My 85 carrera with 172k on the clock still only burns a quart every 1500 and has never had the heads off, can I expect the same kind of life out of 993? I am thinking of purchasing well maintained with records 78k 1995. Please advise, JL

I think from what I have read, the cars that suffer from valve guide wear are the ones that sit in california traffic jams roasting. These 993 can go for a very long time.... there's a member over on rennlist with close to 240k miles and it still runs perfect.

What Herman said - Just as not all Carerra's had bad guides, not all 964's or 993's do either. While some are experiencing earlier than normal wear, others are seeing legendary Porsche durability. I agree that anecdotal evidence indicates that the stop and go, high engine bay heat, rarely hitting redline cars are the ones predominantly suffering from valve guide wear and/or SAI faults.
