1997 993 buy or not?
Hey Pelicans, I have an opportunity to buy a 1997 993 "Carrera S" with 35K miles on it. It is an Arizona car and I know the guy to be pretty meticulous about his work (we are engineers on the same project) and my strong sense is that been very well maintained and he'll have all the receipts. If it is true that he has maintained it well and it is in good shape is, $30K a reasonable price to pay? Also, are their any well known issues with the engine, tranny, braking, electrical, A/C, oil cooling or other systems? I plan to make this a semi-daily commuter and putting on about 8K miles per year. Thanks a lot

Yes, based on the information you've provided, I would say it is a pretty outstanding deal. I would think he would be able to fetch at least $35k for it. $30k would be on the low-end of the range for him...

Thanks, mc2. your response was less than 186k miles per second, but a quick response nonetheless and much appreciated. I’ll move to the next step in the transaction.

Now in 993 land ...

Are you sure this is the "S" with the wider rear? Does it say "Carrera S" on the tail end? Is it an S or 4S? If it is either of these models, it is worth significantly more than 30k. These still sell for 45k+ to date if they have low miles.
Even if it is a regular Carrera 2 -$30k is a very good deal at that mileage. George |

What George said - IF it is an "S", it's worth much more than that.
All being said, get a PPI from an independent Porsche shop.
