Strange electrical gremlin at work here. On intermittent occasions the ignition completely shuts off and then a fraction of a second later comes back on. Recently it happened with the frequency the same as turning a light switch on and off in your home as quick as you can. The resultant bucking produced was reminiscent of a new driver learning the clutch.
A year ago I had a slightly similar experience and replacing the DME relay solved the glitch. At that time the car would slowly die and on restart would fire up and run like a champ for an unpredictable length of time. I checked the battery connections and cleaned them up and reconnected them to no avail. I have noticed that the radio will also shut off when that happens but cannot say if it affects any other electrics as of yet. The radio is after market and is not wired to retain any memory. I thought perhaps replacing the ignition switch would help as it did seem to have a positive impact by wiggling the old when when this happened. After putting in the new switch the problem did go away for a month so I thought the new ig. switch did the trick. Not so. This behaves like a broken wire, open-close-open-close.mmm? Any thoughts on the subject?? THX............. |
