Stuck Rotors

OK, the front rotors are supposed to come off easily once the two small screws holding them to the wheel hub are removed. Mine don't! How do I get a stuck rotor off? Heat? Does that hurt the wheel hub? Any other suggestions? I noticed two threaded holes in the rotors w/o any obvious use. has anyone tried to screw a bolt into the thread an try to push the rotor from the hub? Help!

Thank you

Garage
They are rusted on, just hit them with a mallet a few times, they will pop right off.

Hi Cjoenck,

Yes, you can use the two threaded holes to push off the rotors. Screw in two bolts and rotate them evenly.

Good luck,

Thanks much. I already tried the trusted mallet method. Unfortunately, that did not work. - Yes, I did take the two retaining screws out first

I will try the "two bolts method" next... These rotors have only been installed for about a year. I had a stuck piston so one of them is pretty worn....

More to come.

As always, thanks for all the help.

Use a bigger hammer. Seriously.

I did not want to compromise the front wheel alignment so I tried the "two screws method" and it worked perfectly. I used two 8x50mm metric screws - 74c each from a local hardware store - and made sure they are turned evenly. The rotor popped off nicely without much force.

Highly recommended method for stuck rotors if you don't want to hit your front wheel assembly too hard.
