12 point Hex, or why I shouldn't work on my 964!

Soooo, I got the fan back from Pyramid powder coating and I figured I was a pretty smart guy so I decided to change the fan myself. Boy when am I going to learn. So I didn't have the right 12 point hex to help loosen the belts, so I used a star shaped hex. Now I got the belts off, but I couldn't pull off the fan (like on my 88). So I called my friends over at Asse Motors and come to find out that the fan has to be pulled off with a press. Dooooh! So I put all the belts back on and take my car over to Asse Motors. When they try to remove the belts, I find out because I didn't use a 12 point hex that I stripped the inner threads that you need to hold the fan in place to loosen the fan belts. Soo now I have to not only have to pay for the labor to remove the fan and put on the new powder coated great looking fan, but I got to pay for a new Alternator/ generator. Dooh, Doooh.... But what did I learn, before I ever attempt anything I'm not sure about I'm coming on this chat board to ask. Also I need to buy a 12 point hex, because if my fan belts ever break, ( the tool kit has a new belt, but no 12 point hex) I would be stuck because I couldn't get the belts off. So does anyone know where I can get a 12 point hex?

If i'm not mistaken it's called 'triple square'. Check out the links... is that what you need?

I just purchase a set of 4 off ebay from Summit for less than $10 shipped. They will certainly do the job.

Good question: it was standard in the 964 tool kit, but was dropped for 993.

You don't need to replace/rebuild the whole alternator. Mine was like that when I bought it, and the tool was messed up to boot, so I had an allen cap screw cut off and welded into the hole. It's worked fine for 10 years now! You don't even notice the difference in appearance, and now I can just use an allen.
