I have owned an -84 911 targa for the past 10 years and have started to think about 'upgrading'. There is really nothing wrong with my current ride other than I have had it for a while. I have always longed for a 911 turbo, pretty much since the teenage years.
I'm fairly familiar with the pre-90's 911 turbos and 930s but not so much with the 965 cars. The obvious features are of course better interior, a/c and undercarriage. I'm not sure if it's worth paying the extra premium for a -94 or not? I usually do a couple of DE's per year just for fun but the car would be mainly for street use. Any comments?? Thanks, jt |

A ratty, high mileage '94 is about the same price as a well cared for, pristine, low mileage '91-'93.
If you are doing track days go for the ratty '94. Track work is hard on paint so a few extra stone chips on a rough '94 won't make much difference.

91-92 are 3.3L with 315hp and the 94s are 3.6L with 355hp. Other than the difference in the engine, they are basically the same (ok, the big red are marginally better, but not much). For a track car, the '94 3.6t will run away and hide from a 91-92. As a street car, the 3.6 has more low end torque, but honestly, unless you drive the cars back to back, you won't notice it that much, so either is really fine.
