Replaced my 1995 993 DME today

My car is a weekend car. A couple of weeks ago, it started, stalled and then was hard to start. I got it started and drove 100 miles, with no trouble and several normal restarts.

This afternoon, the car had been in the garage for about 10 days and I went to go for a drive. It cranked, wouldn't start, after several attempts, I held the key in the on position until all noise seemed OK (fuel pump) and it restarted. Usually, this car starts first time, every time.

Anyway, I drove out to a Porsche dealer, a bought a 993 DME, changed it out, hopefully this fixes the problem.

I'm keeping the old one as a spare. The new one is slightly larger (taller) and made in Hungary.

Thanks.

Leo

You should repair the DME and have it as a backup or sell it. If you sell it repaired is woth much more than broken.. Invest a bit to recoup more of the expense of the new DME.

I'm afraid to ask how much for the new DME...

Good luck!

Sorry, it's the relay, $50 from the dealer. I don't even know what DME stands for.

Ahh, the relay not the DME (is the computer).
Yeah that relay goes bad with time, safe to keep a spare in your glovebox

You're lucky... ;-)

Oracle, you are thinking of the ECU, which is the engine control unit, the DME relay controls the fuel pump etc......
