new to the group

hello all,

i am new to this group and wanted to introduce myself...i just purchased a 1996 993 C4 in california and just got it home to seattle this week.

love the car and had a few questions....
1. brakes are a bit squeeky when comming to a stop...they squeel just before stopping...the pads are oem and replaced about 3 months ago.
2. is there any way to turn off the ignition alarm system...it is extremely annoying having to press the alarm button several times to start the car.

thanks,
william ceriale seattle, wa.

Welcome!

If the pads are oem they should have a spider on the backing that goes into the brake piston. IF just three months old, see of the leading edges are beveled - you can pop them out and do that and it helps. You can get some anti-squeal paste for the backsides as well.

It's a big deal to kill the immobilizer/drive block system. One way is simply to use the remote to lock/unlock the car. Otherwise, turn the key to the 1st position, then press the button before you start. You should only have to press it once.

Another good resource is www.p-car.com/diy for your DIY projects.

Congrats again and let us know if you have any questions.

Don

Welcome! Don has you covered there. I would pull the pads and check for the "anti squeal devices" on the back sides. Check the Pelican Parts catalog to see how they look like. They really help and you should add them if they miss. And as Don said, get some practice pressing the button on your remote. Should only take one press of the button per start.

Cheers,

George

Hello,
I had a similar problem on my previous 911 3.2L : there was a rumbling sound just before stopping at low speed before red lights, when not braking anymore. It took time for me to find the origin of the noise. In fact, the brake discs (rotors) where worn and their borders (less worn) were rubbing against the pads even when i was not braking.
Hope it helps you.

Yann-Olivier
