Air filter cover - drilled

My 993 has a drilled air filter cover. I tried ducting taping over the holes to reduce induction noise and improve filtration. Went for a long drive with the sunroof and windows open and could actually hear the quiet exhaust note.

The other day I put my hand over air induction opening and the car kept running as if there was another source of air, the tube that runs up into this housing perhaps. How does an undrilled 95 993 perform if one blocks the air, stalls or cuts out?

Thanks.

Leo

Many people drill the holes for more induction noise. This duplicates what Porsche did with the "Motorsound" package (along with different mufflers). Filtration isn't a problem as the holes are on the input side of the air filter. It's really just a matter of whether you like more intake noise or not.

The holes will do nothing for filtration, it's a Porsche OEM part, they would not use something that is unsafe to the engine.

You can purchase the regular air box cover, & sell the Motorsounds cover, or just trade it with some one.

Your car will run fine with the holes blocked, as long as you don't block the trumpet up front.

If the trumpet is blocked, does the engine stall with an undrilled cover, or does air come somewhere else, for example the tube that attaches to the bottom of the air filter cover.

I have no idea, no reason to try. The rubber tube connects to the trans, it's a emissions thing, to pull up the clutch dust.
