Rear blower motor replacement

Hi all,

The rear blower motor in the engine compartment of my '92 seemed to develop an issues causing a terrible screeching sound. The Bosch replacement motor is easy to find, so I thought of replacing just the motor. I removed the entire assembly and started dismantling it to get to the motor. Right now I have the motor attached to the squirrel cage, but can't figure out how to remove the cage from the motor. There is something at the center that almost looks like a rivet. The pictures of the replacement motor look like it might be a press-fit. Should I just yank on the squirrel cage to remove it?

On a related note, I noticed an air hose going from the ducting to the rear center tail light. This is in addition to the distributor vent line. What is the purpose of the line to the tail light?
Thanks,

Jamil

Rear Blower Motor Replacement

One of mine (one in each rear fender) started screeching too. I lubricated the bearings on the shaft and reinstalled it, no problems now for over a year.

The vent hose should be connected to your air intake system. This hose vents moist air out of the rear light section to reduce cloudiness.

If you find a way to remove the blower fan from the Bosch motor, please let the forum know. Also, what is your source for the replacement motor? Part Number? Rotation? Cost?

Thanks,
Mark

I've had good luck supporting the outer edge of the squirrel cage on three paint cans, with the motor hanging down in the middle, tap on the motor axle with a hammer and punch until the motor drops out.

YES, what Eric said, support the squirrel cage the best you can, even cut a piece of plywood to get full support, then tap out the shaft with hammer and punch.

Eric,

Thanks for the tip. I supported the cage on a 4 qt pitcher with the motor hanging inside. I used a punch on the motor shaft, and after a dozen increasingly hard taps the motor fell into the pitcher. The bushing that supports the shaft had completely disintegrated.

I ordered a new motor from Parts Geek, but it is also available on ****** Auto, Getcoolparts.com and probably many other sites for $140-$170. The Bosch part number is 0 130 111 145 058. Parts Geek lists it as W0133-1602886. Getcoolparts has it as BSH054573. I scoured the Pelican site and could not find it or I would have bought from our sponsor.
Cheers,

Jamil

Thanks for the tips.
Mine also makes a terrible screech so I have the fuse pulled.
Heat works fine even with the fan inop. but I don't get heat out of the floor vents=chilly feet in the winter.
