Anyone ever DIY paintless dent removal?
I noticed a pretty bad ding in my passenger door today, first one I've ever had with the 993. I watched a PDR pro fix my wife's Mini a few years ago and want to try this myself, as the ding is right in the middle of the door and looks easy to massage out. How to I get to the bare metal on the inside of the door? How much of the inside paneling and wiring do I have to remove to get to it? I don't think I'll need much room to work, but I have to get to the bare metal on the inside.

Don't try it yourself. Pay the $150 or $200 and let the pros do it. I had a nasty ding where there garage door dropped and after the guy was done you could barely tell anything had occurred. Talk to the folks at your local Porsche, MB or BMW dealer and ask who they use and call him/her.

Pdr
I bought the kit to remove the dents in my truck after a hailstorm trashed the cab, hood, and the tops of the fenders. I got about half done and had to take a break, that was 6 months ago...
Anyway, the kit I have works pretty well and uses a heat gun to melt adhesive and an external dent puller, there is no going in from the back side. Here is a link: DF-PK100 PROFESSIONAL GLUE PULLING KIT - PDR - Paintless Dent Repair : Dent Fix Equipment It works pretty well. Good Luck, Mark

I would suggest leaving it to the pros. I've done this on my 944, but the whole car is sort of an experiment for me anyway. It's very easy to press to hard in a certain spot and cause an unwanted crease, or do more harm than good. If it were a car you didn't care about much and just wanted to make the dent less noticable, you might try it, otherwise it's worth the money to have it done. I personally have never had any luck with the glue on systems and I've tried the suction cup deals as well with little success.

wait until you have a few more dings and leave it to the pros. DIY in this department is very dangerous..

I have bigger problems now to worry about. Yesterday, while driving to Vegas, it became almost impossible to downshift from 6th to 5th to 4th. This is gonna keep me busy for a while. But I will DIY this PDR sometime. As my first ding in six years, I don't think I'm gonna waiti until I get more.

I heard the same thing about DIY'ing my clear-bra install, which I could have messed up five times before I'd spent what the pros wanted. And it went fine.

RL, have you called a 993 transmission specialist like Brian Copans or that guy in Colorado (can't remember his name!) who does a lot of rebuilds? What about Joel Reiser?

I've emailed with Steve Weiner and Taylor. Both said the loose motor mount could be the issue. I've checked everything else, but am waiting on my fluids to arrive before I can flush the clutch and switch the gear oil to Redline. Should have it by Monday. I broke a case rib on a parking lot speed bump a year ago, so I doubt anyone will take this tranny as a core, should I buy another. I'll figure it out eventually. The door ding is the least of my worries at this point.
