964 chain bracket oil feed/leak problem:

Hi,

Has anyone ever taken those rubber oil pressure items off their 964 (also on the 993) that feed oil into each chain bracket ? The system is quite different than the pre-964 911s. I took some pics that are here:

Thanks,

Patrick

Yeah I've had those oiler caps off. Did it with engine in car to make clearance for spark plug wire change-out. They're held on by two nuts, loosen nuts and then pull and "rock" the cap and it should come off. Now, it feels like you are really pulling to hard, but the short pipe that goes down into the cam housing is a O ring deal that has a tight fit. Freaked me out to have to pull so hard , but they did come off and after would you'll see it was no big deal. I reinstalled them with a bit of fresh oil on the seals and haven't had a leak.

Thanks for the tip: I tried it and they came off fine. The "O" ring on the engine case side of that short metal pipe stayed "put" and so I just renew the larger and smaller "O" rings on that oil bridge part. I installed a new "bridge" but to no avail as the oil leaks persist and it looks like the oil leak on the left side is from the left chain gear "O" ring and the right side looks like a head/cylinder leak and I have a 1990. I'm not up for a top end rebuild at this time so I'll have a Porsche specialist renew the chain gear "O" ring, ck timing and I'll leave the head/cylinder oil leak for when the clutch goes up.

Thanks,

Patrick
