1990 Engine Splash Shield

The previous owner removed and discarded the under body engine splash shield. I realize it keeps water from entering the engine compartment. But, since I seldom drive in the rain (very little rain in South Texas), do I need to replace it? I would like to hear some opinions on this.

Thanks,

Steve

I was told the engine undertrays were removed by some owners of 993s so as to reduce temperatures in the engine area in order to extend the life of valves. That might also be the case on your 964.

I wonder if anyone ever measured the cylinder head temperatures before coming to that conclusion.

Lots of people remove them. Mine is of my car.

The tray was originally designed to help with noise levels and aerodynamics. Keep in mind the aerodynamics we are talking about do not take effect until you do more than 100 mph. Noise level is not really an issue in South Texas, is it?

I would leave the tray off because it helps with heat build-up in the engine bay - especially in your part of the country.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. Heat is a factor here in South Texas so I will leave off the engine shield.
