Warning lights and Speedometer issues

Hi,

My 95, 993 is showing intermittently both the Green and Red ADB codes (warning lights) as well as the Anti-Lock light. At the same time, both the computerized speedo in the digital computer read out and the analog speedometer are reading strangely. They stay at zero, then bounce up to accurate speed, then drop back to zero or some other incorrect reading.

The recession has got to me as well, so I don't want to take it to a shop. It drives fine.

Is there some protocol to reset codes? I just changed the battery to a new diehard, knowing the old one was weak and it didn't change this unusual speedo, code behaviour.

Thanks.

Leo

OK, I may have fixed it by disconnecting the new (Sears die had international) battery and then charging it overnight.

A couple of days later I removed the ground strap and cleaned and retightened it as well as the terminals.

Started the car and ran it for more than two minutes at idle.

After a couple of drives, I'm down to only the airbag light, that goes off on it's own after a few minutes of driving. I can live with this.

Yup, it sounds like a bad ground issue. You might pop the gauges out at some point and check the instrument grounds, but at this point I'd leave well enough alone.

If it goes bad all together and the grounds don't work you might have an ABS relay about ready to go too. My 964 had the ABS, Speedometer and Tail combo and it was all tied to the one relay (around a hundred to replace).

With the strap I've heard they can go bad under the insulation (new ones are twenty bucks or so).

Good luck!!

R68 is the answer

To my ABS ABD lights and speedo issues. My wrench at Metric (Charles) was able to get into the system with the Durametric and found the code for this relay.

The first relay was the wrong size, as the part needed to be sourced as a 94 not a 95. My car was built in March 2004.

The symptoms haven't recurred since.

Good deal...always nice when one little part takes care of what could be a host of bigger issues. :)
