To tint or not to tint?
To tint or not to tint...is the question.
I have owned many vehicles through the years which were my regular daily ride, and nearly all of them I have tinted the windows on. Makes for cutting down the suns glare, and keeps a darker colored car cooler in the summer time. Why then, is it rare to see a P-car picture on this site with a window tint on it? I am looking at getting a black 95 993 that currently has no tint on it, and am wondering if I will put one on, depending on the feedback I get from this forum. Your thoughts towards tinting... Thanks! Also, anyone know option codes out there? The car I'm looking at has option code 718, and I had trouble finding it on the internet. I don't have a booklet for the codes either. Any help? |
Good question... All I know is that Wisconsin only allows a deep tint on the back windows, a mild tint on the front windows and none of the windshield. Thats not much of a project or sun savings for a Porsche with very little glass area.

US 993 should be tinted green oe, there was an option of tinted w/ a darker band at the top of the widow. Same for the back window but there the dark band was supposed to be standard on models w/ the high mounted brake light.
I am unfamiliar w/ Cdn. rules and regs wrt tints but in the US there are some fairly strict restrictions on the darkness of the tints, usuall the sides can be done somewhat darker that the f/r windows. On my '76 C3 the windshield is green w/ a dark band at the top, the sides are medium dark and the rear is stock factory green tint. On my '95 all are factory green tint w/ dark bands at the top f/r |
Our regs in Canada for tinting of windows is:
-front can't be tinted -sides can be tinted slightly to medium (have to be able to see if driver or passenger are wearing belts -rear can be as dark as you want |
You will also find that anyone that tracks their car doesn't want tinting or is not allowed under some governing bodies.....

Personally, I don't like tinting. There is nothing more unnerving than having a vehicle at an intersection and I have no idea if the driver has seen me because their windows are tinted.
Plus I bet the cops often wonder what you're trying to hide... |
